Dress Code

Appropriate attire is required at all times and applies to all members and guests over the age of 12. Proper Club attire may vary by setting and event. Members are responsible for the attire of their guests. 

Main Dining Room, Enclosed Patio and Harbour House

For regular dining, Proper Club attire includes:

• Men: collared shirts with sleeves, and slacks or shorts of appropriate length.
• Women:  dresses, skirts, slacks, or shorts of appropriate length along with sleeved or sleeveless shirts.
• Dressy denim/jeans are considered appropriate Club attire. 
• Suit Jackets are optional. 
• Hats or caps are not permitted unless worn for medical or religious reasons.

Bosun’s Lounge, Outside Bar and Courtyard Area

Members here are encouraged to follow the attire guidelines for the Dining Room, but more casual attire is permitted, including upscale active/leisure wear.

Pool, Docks, and Outside Bar/Courtyard Area

More casual attire is permitted here, including upscale active/leisure wear. 

• Bathing suit cover-ups, gym or coaching shorts, t-shirts, mesh shirts, tank tops, cut-offs, and workout clothing are permitted only on the docks, pool deck, and in the outside bar/courtyard area. 
• Bathing suits are permitted on the pool deck only. 
• Bare feet, thongs, and torn, tattered, frayed, or soiled garments are not permitted.

Specific Events & Occasions

Special Events may have specific dress guidelines. If so, these guidelines are provided in flyers and may include guidance on whether an event is more formal or has a theme. In case of some themed events, guidance may differ from Proper Club dress. In all cases, themed event guidance is optional for members and Proper Club dress is always appropriate.

Special Events

Certain special events feature traditional St. Charles attire. Yacht Club attire includes specific guidelines for Bridge officers (Commodore, Vice Commodore, Rear Commodore) and Past Commodores and occasionally applies to other members.

Yacht Club Formal

Yacht Club Formal dress is worn by Bridge officers during the annual Fleet Review, and by Bridge officers and Past Commodores during the annual Commodore’s Ball.

Bridge Officers and Past Commodores:  black, double-breasted jacket with braid on the sleeves, a formal white shirt, black bow tie for men, white pants, white shoes, and white socks.

For the Fleet Review, other members are encouraged to wear nautical blue and white attire, though all Proper Club attire is welcome. 

For the Commodore’s Ball, formal dress is appropriate for the other members.

Club Dress

For Bridge officers and Past Commodores:  Club Dress is a blue blazer with the Club patch on the left pocket, along with an insignia signifying officer position; white pants, and a plain white dress shirt with a dark colored regular tie for men, white shoes, and socks.

For members: Members are encouraged to wear blue blazers with the Club patch; alternatively, proper attire includes jackets, suits, evening dresses, or similar dressy attire for such events. 

Winter Club Dress

For Bridge officers and Past Commodores: Winter Club Dress is the same as Club Dress, except with gray pants and black shoes and socks. 

For members: Members are encouraged to wear blue blazers with the Club patch; alternatively, proper attire includes jackets, suits, evening dresses, or similar dressy attire for such events. 

Winter Club Dress is worn during the annual Change of Watch.
